The Office of The Legal Counsel provides legal services to the county court, county departments, commissions, and individual county employees when required by the Oregon Tort Claims Act. The Office of the Legal Counsel maintains an attorney-client relationship with the county. The lawyer is appointed by the District Court and serves the District Court at will. During her 15 years as a prosecutor, Hathorn has worked closely with law enforcement, courts and community partners. During her tenure with the Deschutes County Prosecutor`s Office, she was assigned to represent the office in the Deferred Determination of Domestic Violence Program, where she worked with the District Court and the Director of Adult Parole and Probation for Deschutes County to reformulate program requirements and eligibility criteria. SALEM, Oregon (KTVZ) — Gov. Kate Brown announced Monday the appointment of Kari Hathorn as Crook County District Attorney. Hathorn will fill a vacancy created by the recent appointment of Judge Wade Whiting to the Circuit Court for Jefferson and Crook Counties. She has also represented the Deschutes County Prosecutor`s Office before the Mental Health Court, the Drug Court and the Domestic Violence Board. In addition, Hathorn is a member of MADD`s Oregon State Advisory Board and has been very involved in training law enforcement and the community on DIII law and forensics. The central Oregon Regional Office of Legal Aid Services of Oregon is located in Bend and serves Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties, as well as the Warm Springs Reservation Since 2019, she has been a partner at the steele law firm, where she handles personal injury and fraud on the plaintiffs` side, as well as general civil litigation.
