While perhaps new to some of my readers, the above features aren`t the most confusing aspect of our topic. The existence of each type B student raises a common question: why does he stay in an environment that corresponds so badly to his nature? As you might expect, the possible answers to this question vary. Some have liberal arts degrees, which offer few other opportunities to earn a substantial income. Others begin their law studies with noble convictions and insist on their studies for altruistic reasons. Some B types, while not proudly bound, draw their strength solely from stubborn determination. Some people say that the last one disappeared during the Great Purge of `08-09. Others claim that some persist in exotic and unknown lands beyond T14. A handful of AVC students even claim to have spotted one, a «type B» law student wandering around North Grounds at night, crazy about student loan debt and amphetamines. It pains me to say that even after extensive research, we at Virginia Law Weekly cannot verify or falsify any of these claims; The newspaper simply does not have the resources to conduct such an investigation. However, I can bust some of the myths surrounding these unique creatures and hopefully clarify their true nature. High school students must have at least 2.5 grade point averages to participate in independent study, directed reading, and 2.5 to take courses at another law school.

First-year students with a GPA of less than 2.5 at the end of their first semester at Law School must enroll in the «Elements of Legal Analysis» course during their second semester at Law School and defer enrolment in the Legal Profession II course until the next regular course offering. Any student whose GPA is less than 2.2 at the end of a regular semester, but who is eligible to continue his or her studies at the Faculty of Law (whether within these academic standards or following readmission) is on academic probation. But others «win» arguments by shouting or persuading their opponents, usually with logical errors, ad hominem attacks, and outright gibberish. Or they break some dope rhymes that could earn them a spot on BET`s Freestyle Friday. Their opponents usually give up out of frustration.
This kind of «earn by exhaustion» won`t get you very far into law school or law practice. Try this with a judge and you can expect sanctions or even contempt. If you find law fascinating, then become a professor. Go to a bookstore and buy a cheap case book or visit a law library. You can even email a law professor who is happy to have a real conversation with someone who has a genuine interest in the topic, as opposed to a law student who cares more about their grade. Last July, I wrote about the four types of people who should not go to law school. But my post was published after most law school applicants had already decided and filed their tuition; I wish I had written it sooner. A «Highest Grade» grade is sent to the transcripts of students who achieve the highest grade in a law course. These students also receive the CALI Award at the awards ceremony held each spring at the Faculty of Law. The ILAs presented at the Spring Ceremony recognize outstanding academic achievement during the spring and summer semesters of the previous academic year and the fall semester of the current academic year. The first and most important factor to remember when talking about the Type B law student is the paradox of his existence. He participates in the same academic and professional activities as other law students: lectures, citation exams, and IMOs pollute his schedule to a similar degree.
But unlike most other students, he suffers from low instincts that make him yearn for the freedoms and joys of a more balanced life. This does not mean that candidates for the Standard Young Women do not aspire to more freedom than what law school can offer. This is indeed the case. However, every neuron and synapse in the brain of a standard type does not fry when forced to process the information in the blue book, as their analogues do in the brain of a type B student. Many law students find the building and the color coding of their weekly agendas to be a reassuring process. A type B does not know what a planner is. For him, every day is a collection of possibilities that cannot be defined or catalogued on a single page. More importantly, a Type B fears ambition as much as it sticks to it. He sees quality not only as an extension of the inner drive, but as a hybridization that combines such tenacity with selfish desire. As a result, sacrificing his freedom on the road to success might seem like a Faustian affair, not just a cost of playing the game. A student may satisfy the requirement of Option A under the supervision of a faculty member, either through targeted research with two credits or as part of a seminar or other classroom activity.
In the case of a seminar with an optional credit writing component, students writing such a paper may purchase additional credits for the seminar by enrolling in the written credit portion in addition to the seminar itself. For example, if you are registered for the Tax Policy and Public Finance Conference (LAW-LW.10787) for four credits, you must register for the Tax Policy Supplemental Credit and the Conference and Seminar Writing Credit (LAW-LW.10609). You can add the One Writing Credit option on courses during the add/drop period or in person at the Academic Services Office with an add/drop receipt before the deadline specified in the enrollment calendar. Option A writing credit courses are listed in the schedules. Grades are made available to students via the Internet during the grading period. When all grades are final, a grade report is created for each student. Transcripts are available when scores are published. A student must maintain a grade point average of 2.30 or higher to participate in the Two-Year-Old Girls program. However, whatever his particular motivation to stay, a student of this type necessarily distances himself from the arbitrariness and madness that is law school, or he faces a psychological breakdown. As Tennyson wrote of the six hundred, «[being] not to answer, [being] not to argue why, but to do and die.» To put it bluntly, a certain degree of fatalism is absolutely imperative. Such resignation can easily be confused with the careless attitude that defines type B personalities in other environments. But make no mistake, this latter mentality inevitably withers at some point in the first half of the year.
But for those who really want to help people, you need to be more specific about how you plan to do it, and then determine if you need a law degree to do it. Essentially, lawyers have the exclusive right to represent individuals before the courts and in certain government proceedings. So if you specifically want to help people challenge evictions or avoid evictions or jail time, it makes sense to be a lawyer. Make sure you are very selective about which law school you attend. Make sure it ranks well in the specialty you want to enter and negotiate a substantial discount on tuition. It`s still a student market.
