A team of 43 employees covering insurance and real estate work has also joined DWF for this five-year, multi-million pound managed legal services agreement. Fowler was tasked with finding the right partner for the managed services agreement and began defining the total cost of the BT feature – there is only one budget left for the legal department, up from six in 2017. BT also interviewed its internal clients on the executive committee, to whom comments suggested that Legal`s responsibilities needed to be clearer and the service model more consistent. IHL: Some have suggested that another part of the team is also on the way? SC: For us, he leads the responsibility for talent and is aware of the different building blocks that you have to have in a career. In my experience, it`s not just about getting consecutive promotions, but also about gaining that variety of experiences in order to have a well-rounded career. Thus, it could be ensured that people who work in a business unit, such as consumers, also end up gaining B2B or business experience or another legal qualification or language. SC: BT does a lot of things as an organization in terms of leadership and development, so we just make sure to bring in people from the legal and co-sec team to benefit from it. As part of the legal and co-sec function, Jeff Langlands` team always manages to drop the ball from the park in our annual engagement survey. He thinks about it a lot. (1) Document what happened – Record when the harassment took place, where it took place, who was involved, whether anyone witnessed the harassment, and what was said or done. (2) Contact human resources (and/or a manager, depending on your company`s policies) and report the incident in writing and allow the company to correct things internally. (3) Get legal advice – If the harassment is not addressed or if you retaliate in any way, contact a lawyer for advice.
SC: This is a five-year managed legal services mandate that covers our insurance and part of our real estate work, where 40 of our employees have been transferred to DWF. IHL: Where is legal technology in recent years and what influence do you think it will have? SC: Well. The second phase of this transaction was to work with the management team and its direct collaborators to better align with the strategic priorities of the function and the company and how we intend to implement them. There have been a number of areas of activity where we certainly need deep internal know-how and a business partnership – for example, everything related to telecommunications regulation, competition law, data, security and major trade agreements. We need to develop deep expertise internally and work externally with the right consultants. And then there are other areas that are less suitable – for example, certain aspects of litigation, commercial real estate – where a better way to provide services and build careers for the talent involved and leverage technology and best practices in different industries was to work with someone like a DWF. SC: Not yet, but I`m sure they`ll make it. If you look at the development of the world and the legal market, there are a lot of talented lawyers who, at some point in their careers, just need another kind of flexibility: where they live, when they work.
